Organization background
The New York Kathak Festival (NYKF) is a nonprofit that presents and promotes dancers,
scholars, and practitioners of Kathak, an Indian classical dance form.
Founded in 2018 by Kathak student Anisha Muni, and now run by a team of NYC-based volunteers,
the NYKF aims to create an inclusive platform for artists, engage diverse audiences,
preserve the art form and encourage artistic expression. Since 2019, the NYKF has
presented nearly 250 artists through festivals, online programs, and concerts.
Project background
The NYKF 2025 is a three-day event that will run from August 22-24,
at the Ailey Citigroup Theater and Ailey Studios in NYC.
This event will feature workshops led by renowned artists from India,
and will also showcase emerging artists that apply to perform (through an open application).
Workshops will be conducted for participants (who are at various levels of expertise in Kathak)
during the day, and performances
for the general public will be given in the evenings.
